Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott emphasized at Breitbart’s Border Security, Public Safety, and American Sovereignty Event that the difference in border enforcement is ‘pretty simple, it’s night and day’ between the Trump and Biden administrations.
Significant Shift in Border Security
Scott stated that the Trump administration’s actions, including working with Congress to secure additional funding, led to a dramatic improvement in border control. He noted that the border was ‘completely out of control’ during the Biden administration, which ‘opened it up wide.’
Scott highlighted the chaos under the Biden administration, with daily apprehensions peaking at 18,000. He noted that these numbers have significantly dropped, with CBP reporting 16 consecutive months of zero releases at the Southern border, a trend not seen in over three decades.
Policy and Enforcement Success
Scott attributed the decline in border crossings to effective policies, agents enforcing the law, and ending the ‘catch-and-release’ of illegal aliens. He announced that CBP is set to announce a full year of no releases of new entrants at the border, sending a strong message to cartels.
He explained that cartels rely on illegal aliens to overwhelm law enforcement, allowing them to bring narcotics and terrorists into the U.S. With the current enforcement measures, cartels no longer have the ‘clutter’ needed to drive down their costs.
Global Impact of Border Security
Scott said the message of strong border enforcement has been clear worldwide, deterring individuals from investing in the cartels’ operations. He emphasized that the current situation has made it ‘no return on your investment’ for those considering the dangerous path of crossing the border.
