Colorado voters are showing strong support for sex-based rights and opposition to pediatric gender medicine, as ballot initiatives aimed at protecting girls’ sports and preventing gender surgeries on minors gain traction. According to unofficial election results, more than 50% of voters support Proposition 134, ‘The Protect Girls’ Sports Act,’ and Proposition 135, ‘The Protect Kids From Irreversible Sex-Change Surgery Act.’ These initiatives, backed by a grassroots non-partisan child safety group called Protect Kids Colorado, have received 52.37% and 51.87% of votes, respectively, with the final outcomes still too close to call.
Grassroots Effort and Faith Coalition
Protect Kids Colorado, a grassroots non-partisan group, led the effort to get three initiatives on the ballot, which aim to halt the transgender agenda and increase legal penalties for the human trafficking of minors. The group’s efforts included over 3,300 volunteers who collected more than 500,000 signatures to get the initiatives on the ballot. The group also engaged a large faith coalition that includes more than 500 churches.
Public Opinion and Political Shifts
Pew Research Center polling shows that more than 70% of Americans are uncomfortable with transgender athletes competing on teams that do not match their sex at birth, and 66% favor a policy requiring self-identified transgender athletes to compete on teams that match their physical sex. Despite this, Democrat politicians have largely continued in lockstep with views of transgender activists, according to the source material.
Personal Advocacy and Community Support
Erin Lee, a Colorado mother and executive director of Protect Kids Colorado, began her advocacy after her 12-year-old daughter was told she could be transgender at an afterschool LGBTQ+ club. Lee emphasized the power of everyday Coloradans to effect change, stating, ‘Today is the day WE THE PEOPLE prove we can just do things — that we’re more powerful than billionaires & globalists — that common sense can reign supreme.’ The group’s website highlighted the collective effort of thousands of Coloradans who came together against all odds.
These ballot initiatives reflect a broader shift in public opinion and political priorities, as voters increasingly demand policies that protect children and uphold traditional sex-based rights. The results of these measures may signal a significant change in the political landscape of Colorado, particularly in the wake of recent shifts in the state’s Senate and gubernatorial races.
