The Department of Justice (DOJ) has revealed in a court filing that a search warrant against Somali Rep. Ilhan Omar names her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” and that the search warrants have not been fully executed or completed. The revelation comes as the criminal fraud probe intensifies, with officials exploring various potential crimes, including immigration fraud and financial misconduct.

Federal Investigation Expands

Fifteen news organizations previously requested the unsealing of the search warrant and related judicial records in the case against Ilhan Omar. In a government motion filed on Wednesday, the DC US Attorney’s Office asked for an extension to respond to these requests, citing that the search warrant has not yet been fully executed and that more items, records, and locations may be involved.

Law enforcement has already raided Omar’s home, seizing her phone, computer, passport, and obtaining her DNA. Her family members have also been subpoenaed, as part of the sprawling investigation. Officials suspect that Omar may have lied on her immigration papers, potentially committing fraudulent citizenship.

Brother’s Name Appears on Warrant

Notably, the name “Nur Said Elmi” matches that of Omar’s biological brother, whom she married in 2009. This has raised questions about the accuracy of her identity and the nature of the investigation.

Conservative attorney Will Chamberlain suggested that the DOJ believes she is present in the United States under a false identity. Meanwhile, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer recently raised concerns about Omar’s husband’s “winery” business, which he claims was shut down due to fraud. The business allegedly sold empty barrels of wine to investors.

Political and Legal Reactions

Ilhan Omar broke her silence on the investigation in a social media video, begging for donations to “fight Trump and his administration.” She claimed the probe is an attempt to intimidate her and others before the midterm elections. President Trump, on the other hand, has suggested that Omar “might go to jail” and criticized her culture and homeland, Somalia, as a “real sh*t house.”

US Attorney Jeanine Pirro noted that there are “several investigations going on,” suggesting that the probe may involve civil or criminal immigration issues, financial crimes, and Omar’s financial disclosures. The investigation also centers on her $30 million net worth and allegations that her wealth was obtained through fraudulent activities in Minnesota.
