DOJ Targets Foreign Voters in New Election Crackdown
Justice Department charges foreign nationals for illegally voting in U.S. elections, citing concerns over voter fraud.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched a new crackdown targeting foreign nationals accused of illegally voting in federal elections, citing a growing concern over voter fraud and the integrity of the electoral process. The agency announced charges against nine foreign nationals, including multiple illegal immigrants, for election-related crimes, while two others pleaded guilty to similar charges. Additionally, a U.S. Postal Service employee was charged with destroying hundreds of mail-in ballots.
DOJ Seeks to Deter Illegal Voting
White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis emphasized the department’s stance, stating, “Despite the media and Democrats denying it for decades, non-citizens continue to register and vote in federal elections. Our message to aliens who vote in American elections is clear: we will find you, arrest you, and you will face the consequences including deportation. Only Americans should be electing America’s leaders.”
The move comes amid President Donald Trump’s push for the Senate to pass the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. Trump has long warned that current safeguards are insufficient to prevent foreign nationals from influencing American elections.
Cases Highlight Illegal Voting by Foreign Nationals
Among the cases, 20-year-old Filipino national Bernadette Acaso pleaded guilty to illegally casting a mail-in ballot during the 2024 election. She admitted to registering to vote in March 2024 despite not being a U.S. citizen and later lied about her vote when interviewed by immigration officials.
In Florida, Haitian national Valery Zidor admitted to voting in the 2024 presidential election after registering to vote and lying about his citizenship. At the time, Zidor was in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status, which the Trump administration had since ended.
Other defendants include a 75-year-old Canadian illegal immigrant, Christiane Vinette Young, accused of voting in three federal elections, and Nigerian national George Olawunmi Johnson, who has been illegally registered to vote since 2010. Additionally, a 49-year-old Venezuelan national, Danubis Bernat, was allowed to vote in person in New Jersey during the 2024 election.
Postal Worker Charged With Destroying Ballots
The DOJ also accused a 34-year-old U.S. Postal Service worker, Damon Matai Seei, of throwing away approximately 300 mail-in ballots belonging to registered Utah voters. The charges highlight the department’s broader efforts to ensure the integrity of the voting process and prevent any form of election fraud.
