GOP Blames Iran War for Midterm Defeat
Republican insiders link midterm losses to Iran conflict, urging Trump to focus on domestic issues.

As the fallout from the midterm elections continues, Republican insiders and White House officials are pointing to the war in Iran as the primary cause of the party’s devastating losses. With a blue tsunami sweeping across the nation, frustration is mounting among GOP operatives, who are now openly blaming the conflict in the Middle East for the GOP’s poor showing.
War in Iran Seen as Political Catastrophe
One national GOP operative told The Daily Wire, “People will try to overcomplicate this, but it’s really simple. This is 100% because of Iran. It’s all in the data and has been since a week after the war started. The economic anxiety is directly correlated with the war. We got our asses kicked because of it.” Another source close to the White House simply texted, “It’s the war, stupid.”
Despite some Republican victories, including a secured southern border and culture war accomplishments, many within Trump’s orbit believe the war in Iran was a political misstep. Some are even suggesting that Trump himself bears responsibility for the poor performance, noting that he is the “least popular president going back to Truman” heading into a midterm.
Call for End to War and Focus on Domestic Issues
A former administration official urged the president to “quickly end the war on our terms, declare victory, and return to a laser focus on the issues facing American families here at home.” The official added, “And stay the hell out of the Middle East.”
Trump, meanwhile, spent the last month campaigning, traveling to nearly two dozen states. He encouraged voters to imagine him on the ballot, emphasizing the choice between radical Democrats and pro-America policies. He also warned that the sitting president’s party often suffers in midterms.
White House Mixed on Election Outcomes
As election night unfolded, White House officials were initially cautiously optimistic, citing the president’s efforts. However, as results worsened, the mood turned more defiant. One official claimed, “President Trump was not on the ballot, and it’s proven that Trump voters show up when he is on the ballot.”
Despite the losses, the official predicted, “Regardless of how today plays out, President Trump’s resolve to stop the Radical Left is only going to become stronger. Buckle up.”
Later that night, Trump himself weighed in, stating, “I wasn’t on the Ballot, and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!”
