Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported Christian Ruvalcaba-Salas, a man accused of raping a child in Mexico, after he was granted a green card by the Biden administration. The 28-year-old was deported on October 16 to face charges related to the alleged crime, which occurred in November 2022.

Background and Legal Proceedings

Ruvalcaba-Salas entered the United States as a nonimmigrant in January 2020 near Laredo, Texas, but failed to leave by the required date of July 6, 2020, making him an illegal alien. In March 2021, the Biden administration awarded him a two-year green card. However, a Mexican court issued a warrant for his arrest in November 2022, accusing him of raping a child.

ICE officials stated that Ruvalcaba-Salas departed the U.S. at an unknown time before the alleged crime and crossed the border on November 27, 2022, just three days after the incident. In May, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) terminated his green card and initiated deportation proceedings. A federal immigration judge ordered his deportation in July.

ICE Statement on the Case

ICE spokesperson Micah Bock emphasized that criminal illegal aliens, particularly child predators and sex offenders, have no place in the United States. He stated that ICE will relentlessly pursue such violent predators to ensure community safety. Bret Bradford, another ICE official, highlighted the danger posed by Ruvalcaba-Salas, who used his green card status to allegedly evade prosecution in Mexico and return to the U.S. after committing the crime.

Bradford noted that despite being wanted in Mexico for the rape and having a history of criminal offenses in the U.S., Ruvalcaba-Salas was able to remain free in the community for years. ICE officers tracked him down after he attempted to flee and repatriated him to Mexico for prosecution.

Public Reaction and Legal Implications

The case has sparked debate over the administration’s handling of immigration and criminal justice. Critics argue that granting a green card to a known criminal undermines public safety and highlights gaps in the immigration system. Meanwhile, supporters of the Biden administration defend the decision, emphasizing the complexity of immigration law and the need for due process.
