British authorities have arrested a dual U.K.-Iranian national in connection with a suspected terror plot targeting a U.S. air base used for strikes against Iran. The 25-year-old man was detained in Westminster, London, on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts as part of an investigation into an incident near the Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford air base.

Plot Foiled by Local Resident

The alleged attack was uncovered by a local resident who noticed something amiss, leading to the arrest of five British men on Sunday. These suspects were later released on bail without being charged, though counterterrorism officials emphasized that the bail conditions were strict. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham confirmed that investigators had found indications of Iranian involvement in the incident.

“There are strong indications that Iran played a part in what happened over the weekend at RAF Fairford,” Burnham stated. He also highlighted the close collaboration between British and American officials, defending the decision to release the suspects with strict conditions.

RAF Fairford: Key Launch Site for U.S. Missions

RAF Fairford is a strategic location for U.S. military operations against Iran, primarily due to its extended runway, which can accommodate heavy bombers like the B-1 and B-52. This facility is frequently used for missions targeting Iran, making it a potential target for adversarial actions.

The suspected attack was reportedly foiled when a local farmer called authorities after observing Middle Eastern men fleeing utility vans with unregistered phone numbers. Another report suggested that one of the suspects had called police, leading to the initial arrests. None of the suspects have been publicly identified.

In response to the allegations, Iranian officials have denied any involvement in the planned attack. The incident has raised concerns about foreign state interference and the security of U.S. military installations overseas.
