Kentucky State Trooper Hayden Phillips was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Monday, according to state police. The incident occurred on Interstate 65 in Warren County near Bowling Green. Phillips was patrolling the area when he was killed in the line of duty.

The unidentified suspect, described as a black male with dreadlocks, initially fled the scene in a blue Honda Civic with Alabama plates. Law enforcement launched a statewide manhunt to locate the individual, which culminated in the suspect’s arrest.

Following the tragic incident, Governor Andy Beshear expressed his condolences and asked the public to join him in praying for the family of Trooper Phillips. “Hayden was a hero who dedicated himself to protecting our commonwealth,” Beshear said.
Kentucky Republican James Comer also extended his prayers for the family and fellow officers of Phillips. “Please join me in praying for the family, loved ones, and fellow officers of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips, who was tragically killed in the line of duty today,” Comer stated.

Kentucky State Police released a statement acknowledging Phillips’ service and sacrifice. “Trooper Hayden Phillips, Unit 369, made the ultimate sacrifice while patrolling I-65 in Warren County. He was assigned to Post 3 Bowling Green and was a graduate of Cadet Class 103,” the statement read.
