Florida Governor Ron DeSantis addressed the media on Sunday following a catastrophic plane crash in West Palm Beach, just miles from President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. The crash, involving a Learjet 60, resulted in the deaths of all nine individuals on board, according to reports.
DeSantis Describes Crash as ‘Cataclysmic’
At the press conference, DeSantis described the crash as ‘cataclysmic,’ noting that the plane ‘plunged straight down to the ground like a missile,’ leaving a large crater on the side of the road. ‘It looked like a missile going down,’ he said, emphasizing the severity of the impact.
DeSantis also mentioned the extensive debris that was scattered from the crash site. ‘There was a lot of debris that was spewed as a result of this crash,’ he explained. ‘As of now, we don’t have any reports of anyone who was on the ground apart from the people in the plane who were killed or injured as a result of debris.’
Evacuation and Investigation Underway
Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel G. Flores confirmed that the residential area was under evacuation, with approximately 600 people needing to relocate for the night. The site was described as a ‘crime scene,’ and residents were being moved to two shelters in the county.
Flores also noted that the impact created a ‘massive crater’ and estimated that the road would be closed for at least 30 days. County Administrator Joseph Abruzzo stated that the county would be sending an emergency declaration to Governor DeSantis.
Chilling Audio Captures Final Moments
Chilling audio from the air traffic control radio captures the final moments before the jet hit the ground. The pilot reported descending at an alarming rate, shouting, ‘We’re descending 8,000 feet — mayday, mayday! We’re descending 10,000 feet per minute.’ A female crew member added, ‘Holy f*ck, we’re out of time!’ before the audio cut off.
