A mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, left nine people dead, including two children and an unborn baby, on Friday evening. The 45-year-old suspect, who shot himself after the rampage, has been identified as the grandfather of one of the victims, according to local authorities.
Tragedy Strikes Family
Julius Windham, the father of one of the children killed, identified the murderer as his child’s grandfather. He said he never expected the man to be violent, describing him as friendly and kind.
“I think that was a front for him,” Windham said. “Him every day, him smiling and being just — you would think of nothing like that would happen.”
Windham expressed deep grief, vowing to be strong for his community and family. “Words can’t even explain what I’m going through right now,” he added. “But I gotta be strong for my community, you know what I’m saying? My family, my daughters, my sons, everybody.”
Pregnant Mother and Family Lost
Amarianna, a 1-year-old girl, was one of the victims. Her pregnant mother, Angelina Stone, was also killed in the attack. Stone was reportedly just days away from giving birth, and her children — a 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl — were also among the victims.
A family friend described the tragedy: “She was pregnant, about to have her baby in a couple days and she had a daughter that was almost 2 and her son Isiah and they were all just beautiful.”
Community in Shock
Friends and neighbors expressed disbelief and sorrow over the attack. Nicole Eller, whose friend was killed, said the attacker was a “good guy” who “started going downhill with everything.”
Debra Eller, another friend, added, “They were a lovely family. Who would have thought this would ever happen?”
Local police described the scene as “one of the most difficult and heartbreaking scenes our officers and investigators have ever encountered.” Police Chief Rick Lorah said the loss of life was devastating, and the circumstances were deeply disturbing.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or the attacker, leaving the community in mourning and searching for answers.
