Meghan Markle has spoken out about the recent allegations that her estranged father, Thomas Markle, was in possession of child pornography. The Duchess of Sussex expressed deep distress over the news, which came to light after her half-brother, Thomas Jr., revealed he found hundreds, if not thousands, of child sexual abuse images in their father’s home in the Philippines.
Meghan’s Statement on the Allegations
In a statement released on Friday, Markle said she was “deeply distressed” by the disturbing news and expressed her thoughts with any children who may have been harmed. She emphasized that the allegations were the reason she cut ties with her father before her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018.
“In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father, and I was given assurances that these were being investigated,” she wrote. Markle reiterated her hope that the public now understands her decision to distance herself from her father and prevent him from having contact with her children.
Thomas Jr.’s Claims and FBI Involvement
Thomas Jr. told The Sun that he found four boxes containing child pornography in his father’s home. He described the content as “the worst of the worst,” including videos of girls under 11 engaged in sexual acts. He also mentioned a 15-minute video on his father’s phone and said he had no choice but to report the findings to the FBI.
The FBI confirmed it had received Thomas Jr.’s affidavit and is set to launch its own probe. Thomas Markle Jr. also revealed that he had been caring for his father in recent years due to health issues, including a stroke and leg amputation in 2025. He stated he would never speak to his father again unless called to give evidence.
Father’s Response and Family Reactions
Thomas Markle, now 82, told the Daily Mail that he was “shocked” and “hurt” by the accusations. He denied the allegations, stating, “I could never do what I’m being accused of. It’s the worst thing anyone could accuse me of.”
Samantha Markle, Thomas Jr.’s sister, defended their father, calling the allegations “without merit.” She accused her brother of trying to “destroy our dad” and said shame on him for making such claims.
