Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography following an investigation that led to his arrest in Lakeland, Florida. The 82-year-old was allegedly found to be keeping explicit photos of prepubescent girls in storage units in Los Angeles. If convicted, Markle could face up to 20 years in federal prison.

FBI Seizes Evidence From Storage Units

The FBI seized 78 items from two storage units, including slides, film negatives, and books containing suspected child sexual abuse material. According to the Justice Department, an affidavit describes two images of an adult man identified by a witness as Markle with a nude prepubescent girl. A third image depicts a nude prepubescent girl in what appears to be a motel room in the Philippines.

Home Detention and Legal Concerns

U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas Wilson ordered Markle to be released on personal recognizance and placed under home detention and electronic monitoring. He is restricted to travel within the Middle District of Florida and the Central District of California. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., reported his father’s alleged possession of child pornography to authorities, stating he would no longer speak to him unless required to testify against him.

Meghan Markle’s Response to Allegations

Meghan Markle has not publicly commented on the arrest, but she addressed the allegations in an October 23 statement. She expressed deep distress over the recent news and said she hoped the allegations would help explain her decision to cut ties with her father. She emphasized her commitment to protecting her children and trusting authorities to safeguard other families.

Previous Allegations and Family Tensions

Markle had previously denied the allegations, and he did not attend Meghan’s 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. Just months after the wedding, Meghan sent him a letter asking him to stop talking to the news media. The family tensions have been a subject of public interest for years, with media reports often highlighting the strain on their relationship.
