Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Arab political parties of election fraud, alleging they used bribery, threats, and violence to influence the outcome of the ongoing Knesset elections. The claims came as Arab voter turnout reached record levels, with the two main Arab parties, Ra’am and the Joint List, securing historic gains in the polls.

Accusations of Fraud and Criminal Activity

Speaking for his Likud party, Netanyahu claimed the Arab parties had engaged in widespread election rigging, including the use of thousands of cash-filled envelopes, threats against polling station staff, and the use of prohibited software to mobilize voters. He also alleged discrepancies in the number of envelopes and voters, as well as multiple voting under different identities.

Netanyahu demanded immediate investigations by the police, the Shin Bet — Israel’s domestic security agency — and the Central Elections Committee, which oversees the Knesset elections. He warned that the law enforcement agencies must act with an iron fist to preserve election integrity and protect Israeli democracy.

Current Election Projections

As of Wednesday afternoon, nearly 90% of the votes had been counted. Netanyahu’s bloc, comprising Likud, Shas, United Torah Judaism, Otzma Yehudit, and Religious Zionism, is projected to win 53 seats, a significant drop from the 68 seats they held in the current Knesset. Main opposition candidate Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashav party is projected to secure 48 seats, leaving neither bloc close to a 61-seat majority and potentially leading to a stalemate.

The Arab parties have secured 19 seats between them, more than double their current nine seats in the Knesset. This marks a historic increase in their representation, driven by record voter turnout aimed at ousting Netanyahu’s right-wing bloc.

International Reaction and Political Implications

The Trump administration has not decided to intervene in the formation of an Israeli governing coalition, as results were still pending. The allegations of election fraud and the potential for a stalemate highlight the deepening political tensions in Israel, with Netanyahu’s right-wing bloc facing significant challenges from both Arab parties and the opposition.
