Netflix’s global layoffs have intensified, with the streaming giant now affecting its London headquarters as part of a broader restructuring effort. According to Variety, up to 3 percent of Netflix’s workforce in the UK has been laid off, marking one of the latest developments in the company’s ongoing shift in strategy.
Anna Mallett, the U.K. and EMEA production Vice President, has also left the company. Mallett, who previously served as CEO of ITN and held senior roles at BBC Studios, was instrumental in the production of several UK hits, including Baby Reindeer and Adolescence. Her departure signals a significant change in the company’s leadership and creative direction.
Netflix has replaced content chief Bela Bajaria with Peter Rice, a British executive and former 21st Century Fox president. This move has raised concerns about further restructuring within the company. Despite these changes, co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos have assured stakeholders that international operations will remain unaffected.
Peters emphasized during an earnings call that the quality, quantity, and variety of content continue to drive the company’s business model. He noted that healthy retention rates in every region are a testament to the company’s success. Peters also highlighted the importance of local titles from different markets, which he said are contributing to business growth.
Earlier this month, Netflix laid off approximately 1,000 employees, representing 6 percent of its workforce, marking the largest staff cut since 2022. This trend has sparked worries about the declining viewership of the company’s biggest hits, with audiences abandoning shows after just one season, as reported by Breitbart News over the summer.
As Netflix navigates these changes, the impact on its creative output and global strategy remains a key focus for analysts and fans alike. The company’s ability to adapt to these challenges will be critical in maintaining its position as a leading streaming platform.
