New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani marked the three-year anniversary of October 7 by criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza, accusing the country of committing genocide. In a statement, Mamdani described the suffering of Palestinians as ongoing, citing over 74,000 deaths, including more than 21,000 children, since the start of the conflict.
Accusations of War Crimes and Targeting Aid
Mamdani also accused Israel of targeting ambulances, residential buildings, and journalists, and of blocking food aid. He emphasized that the suffering has intensified with every Israeli attack, calling the actions war crimes. He further stated that New Yorkers are grieving alongside the victims while acknowledging that their tax dollars fund these actions.
Remembering the Victims
While much of Mamdani’s message focused on blaming Israel for its response to the October 7 attacks, he also remembered the victims of the attack, acknowledging the loss of over 1,100 Israelis and the abduction of 251 others. He expressed grief alongside those affected by the tragedy.
Contrast with Governor Hochul’s Tribute
In contrast, New York Governor Kathy Hochul dedicated her tribute entirely to the victims of the October 7 attacks. She described the event as the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust and emphasized the enduring strength and hope of the Jewish community.
Israeli Consulate Invites Mamdani to Screening
The Israeli Consulate in New York invited Mamdani to a screening of a film documenting Hamas’ atrocities. Israeli Consul General Ofir Akunis suggested that attending the event might help Mamdani see the truth and stop spreading accusations against Israel.
Mamdani’s Scheduled Events
Mamdani is scheduled to attend a vigil in remembrance of October 7 and will later meet with Palestinian New Yorkers. He has not responded to The Daily Wire’s request for comment on whether he plans to attend the consulate event.
