A Philadelphia police officer was killed and another officer seriously wounded in a Saturday morning ambush, according to reports. The incident occurred just past midnight after officers responded to a call about a person with a gun.
Both officers were shot multiple times and rushed to the hospital for surgery. FOX 29 reported the details of the incident, while 6 ABC provided additional information about one of the officers, identified as 40-year-old Shane Seiber. Seiber, a husband and father, did not survive his injuries. His wife and family were able to reach the hospital before he passed away. He had a 7-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter.
Seiber was shot three times, while the second officer was shot 12 times. The suspect fled the scene and climbed into a tree to hide. He was later apprehended by SWAT officers.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel expressed his condolences and praised the bravery of the officers. He stated, “I am so damn proud of the men and women who serve in this department. Consistently, they go into danger, and they give their lives for this job. And so we ask for those prayers, and we ask for you to support our men and women out there, and what they give for this profession.”
The incident has raised questions about public safety and the risks faced by law enforcement. The suspect’s identity and motive remain under investigation. As the city mourns the loss of Officer Seiber, the police department continues to seek support and solidarity from the community.
