Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has claimed that some sheriffs are suing their own states over sanctuary policies that he says jeopardize public safety. During an appearance on Breitbart News Daily, Jordan highlighted the growing concern among law enforcement officials about the impact of sanctuary jurisdictions on communities.

Angel Families Testify on Sanctuary Risks

Jordan discussed the testimonies of ‘angel families’ who have appeared before his committee. These families, he said, have shared harrowing stories of illegal migrants who were released from custody despite having pending charges, only to later commit violent crimes. Jordan emphasized that these incidents have led to weekly hearings on the issue, as he believes the policy is ‘stupid’ and puts lives at risk.

Sanctuary Jurisdictions Spread Across the Nation

Jordan also pointed out that a significant portion of the U.S. population resides in sanctuary jurisdictions, which include 18 large blue cities, 11 big blue states, and three counties near Washington, D.C. He argued that this widespread adoption of sanctuary policies is ‘dumb’ and undermines the role of sheriffs, who are elected to protect their communities.

Sheriffs Take Legal Action Against Their States

Jordan cited examples of sheriffs from Maryland and New York who have taken legal action against their states, arguing that sanctuary policies endanger public safety. He noted that these sheriffs, who are the top law enforcement officials in their counties, feel compelled to sue their own states due to the perceived risks posed by the policies.

Call for Congressional Focus on the Issue

Jordan urged Republicans to focus on this issue ahead of the midterms, emphasizing that the actions of sheriffs reflect a deep concern about the safety of their constituents. He added that the sheriffs’ willingness to sue their states underscores their belief that the current policies are not in the best interest of their communities.
