A Texas mother is facing capital murder charges after authorities say she shot and killed both of her sons inside their Waxahachie home early Thursday morning. The suspect, 42-year-old Colleen Nichole Lemmon, is accused of fatally shooting her 21-year-old son, Christopher Scott Pitre, and his 15-year-old brother.
Tragic Scene at the Home
According to FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, Ellis County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Big Sky Drive on October 1 after receiving a 911 call reporting an unknown emergency. The Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded at approximately 4:13 a.m.
What deputies reportedly discovered inside was horrific. Christopher Scott Pitre, 21, was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. His 15-year-old brother was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries. Authorities have withheld the younger victim’s identity.
Lemmon was also found inside the residence suffering from injuries authorities described as non-life-threatening. Investigators said evidence recovered during the investigation established probable cause to identify Lemmon as the person responsible for shooting both of her sons.
Arrest and Charges
Lemmon was taken to a hospital for treatment before being transported to the Wayne McCollum Detention Center, where she was booked on two counts of capital murder. According to WFAA, her bond was set at $2.5 million.
A search warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA Friday said 911 dispatch received the call and the caller hung up the phone. Dispatch got the caller back on the line and a female said all units were needed, and before they could get more information about what was going on, the caller hung up again, the affidavit said.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they could hear a woman yelling at them to get more units and told them she had a gun in her hand, according to the search warrant affidavit. Deputies saw the woman, identified as 42-year-old Colleen Nichole Lemmon, had blood on her hands. When deputies got into the mobile home, they found Lemmon in the living room “covered in blood with a gun next to her,” the affidavit said, and had “what seemed to be self-inflicted cuts to her wrists.”
Lemmon told deputies “I shot both of my kids” and said they were in the master bedroom and back bedroom, according to the affidavit. They found two men, 21-year-old Christopher Scott Pitre and a 15-year-old juvenile, with gunshot wounds to their heads. Pitre was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 15-year-old was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman expressed condolences to the family following the killings.
“My deepest sympathies go out to the victims’ father, family members, and loved ones involved in this tragic incident.”
Norman added that the family would remain in the department’s prayers.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive or explained what may have led to the deadly shooting.
