Trump Dismisses Obama’s Two-Year Matriarchy Idea
Former President Trump responds to Obama’s hypothetical about women leading governments for two years.

Former President Barack Obama has long speculated about the potential benefits of women leading every government in the world for two years. During a conversation with historian Doris Kearns Goodwin at Salem State University in Massachusetts, Obama expressed his belief that such an experiment would result in a ‘significant improvement’ in global outcomes, even if not perfect.
Obama’s Two-Year Matriarchy Hypothesis
Obama reflected on his presidency, imagining what might happen if women temporarily took charge of all governments. While acknowledging the hypothetical nature of the idea, he remained confident that the world would be better off under such a scenario.
This idea is not new for Obama. In 2019, he made a similar argument in Singapore, stating that women would ‘be better than us [men]’ and that placing them in charge of every nation for two years would lead to ‘a significant improvement’ in living standards and outcomes.
Trump’s Response and Female Leadership in His Administration
President Donald Trump, however, was skeptical of Obama’s proposal, dismissing it as ‘ridiculous.’ Despite his reservations, Trump’s administration has included numerous high-ranking women in key positions, challenging the notion that he opposes female leadership.
Trump made history by appointing Susie Wiles as his first White House chief of staff, a position previously held by no woman. Wiles remains one of the most powerful figures in the administration, managing the White House operation.
Additionally, Trump’s second term began with several women in Cabinet-level roles, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and Education Secretary Linda McMahon. Other notable appointments include Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Karoline Leavitt, who became the youngest White House press secretary in history.
While Trump clearly does not endorse Obama’s two-year experiment, his administration has demonstrated a willingness to place women in positions of power, highlighting the irony in the exchange.
