During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York City, President Donald Trump expressed optimism that Russia and Ukraine will reach a peace deal, according to remarks shared with reporters. The leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, where Trump emphasized the importance of finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Optimistic Outlook on Conflict Resolution
“The president and I are trying to figure out a solution, and I think it’s going to happen. I really do. I believe it’s going to happen,” Trump said, highlighting the strong relationship he shares with Zelensky. When asked about Ukraine reclaiming its lost territory, Trump remained optimistic, stating, “I think they’re going to make a deal, and I don’t want to say what the deal is.” He noted that discussions have taken place with Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed confidence that a resolution is on the horizon.
Call for Peace Before Winter
Zelensky, during his remarks at the meeting, expressed hope that the war would conclude before winter, which has already lasted over four and a half years. “I hope that we will end this war, and President Trump will help us to end this war. And I think that we needed to do as quick as possible before winter,” he said. Trump echoed this sentiment, adding, “Before winter, big thing before winter,” emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Trilateral Talks Possibility
Trump also addressed the potential for a trilateral meeting between himself, Zelensky, and Putin at the G20 in Miami, Florida. “Well, I don’t know. I know that he will meet, and we’ve had a meeting already in Alaska. I think he’d do another one,” he said. While the Miami meeting remains uncertain, Trump confirmed that both leaders are willing to meet and are eager to see the war end.

“I think they both want to see the war end, to be honest with you. It’s time. A lot of people being killed, and they don’t want that,” Trump added. His comments reflect a growing sentiment that both sides are seeking a resolution to the conflict, despite the ongoing challenges.
