Vice President JD Vance made a strong statement during a televised town hall event on Thursday, vowing that the Trump administration would not allow the conflict with Iran to become a ‘forever war.’ Speaking on FNC’s ‘Jesse Watters Primetime,’ Vance addressed concerns about the administration’s performance ahead of the midterms, emphasizing the need for a change in leadership.
Addressing Concerns Over Foreign Policy
When asked about the administration’s shortcomings, Vance acknowledged the frustration over ongoing foreign misadventures in the Middle East. He shared his personal experience in Iraq, which motivated his political career, and highlighted the seven-month involvement with Iran, noting the longer-standing U.S. engagement with the country.
Vance assured the audience that Trump would not let the conflict with Iran escalate into a prolonged war. He emphasized the distinction between criticizing foreign military actions and opposing the use of the American military altogether. He also pointed out that the administration had made significant strides in several key areas, including immigration and housing.
Progress on Immigration and Housing
Vance highlighted the administration’s success in closing the border on day one, with zero illegal crossings reported. He also praised efforts to combat visa fraud, which he argued had been used by big corporations to undercut American wages. On housing, he noted the impact of immigration policies and the ban on Wall Street from purchasing American homes, citing a doubling of home prices in Texas during the Biden administration.
He acknowledged that while progress had been made, there was still much work to be done. However, he reiterated his confidence in Trump’s ability to achieve U.S. objectives in the Iran conflict and refocus on other priorities, which he said the media often overlooks.
Focus on Ending Forever Wars
Vance’s remarks underscored his commitment to preventing the Iran conflict from becoming an endless war. He framed the issue as a critical foreign policy challenge, stressing that Trump’s leadership would ensure the U.S. achieves its goals without entangling the nation in an indefinite conflict.
