A woman reportedly went on a rampage inside a Salt Lake City boba shop after a cup she wanted was no longer available. Surveillance footage captured the incident, showing the customer becoming increasingly agitated and eventually vandalizing the store.
The incident occurred at Sunny Honey Boba and Desserts, where the customer became upset when informed that a specific cup was no longer in stock. She repeatedly demanded the discontinued item, leading to a confrontation with employees. The customer reportedly threw chairs at staff and damaged the drive-thru speaker system.
Shop Owner Shares Impact on Staff
Cassie Vu, the owner of Sunny Honey, stated that the shop was reopened the following day after staff spent the night cleaning up. However, she emphasized that the emotional impact on employees, especially younger workers, was more significant than the financial damage.
“They are shaking,” Vu said. “They’re still young, so they’re kind of afraid that happened.” She mentioned that the incident involved a former customer and followed an earlier dispute over a similar cup. During the confrontation, the woman grabbed chairs and threw them, then pulled items from the counter and hurled them toward employees.
Charges Filed Against Suspect
According to Salt Lake City police, officers located the suspect nearby after she left the business. She was charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, with additional charges possibly pending. Vu estimated the damage to be between $5,000 and $6,000, but she noted that the emotional trauma experienced by her staff was the most concerning aspect.
