Joe Jonas revealed he had a terrifying experience while on vacation in Italy, where he fell between two boats during a transfer. The incident occurred while he was with friends and decided to stop at a restaurant by the water. The restaurant required patrons to use its transfer boat and crew, and the unexpected happened when he tried to board the tender boat.

A rocky waters ordeal

Jonas described how the crew held on to the tender amid ‘rocky’ waters, and a ‘mate’ held onto his arm and told him to proceed to the other boat. As he took a step, a wave pushed the boat far out from the yacht, causing him to slip and fall between the two boats. The first mate tried to grab him, but he also fell in after him.

Jonas surfaced from beneath the water and realized he was between the two boats, so he tried frantically to get away. Crew members urged him to swim toward the yacht’s ladder, but ‘that’s where the engines are.’ He initially tried to climb up, but he hit his shin or something and fell back in. Eventually, he managed to ‘roll’ onto the boat.

Emotional aftermath

Jonas admitted that the gravity of the ordeal didn’t set in for at least an hour. ‘In those moments, you’re just like, your adrenaline is going so fast,’ he said. He initially thought he was fine, but after some time, he realized he had experienced a close call. ‘I finally came down from the anxiety,’ he said. ‘That shit was really scary. Like that really spooked me for a while. It was really intense.’

Concern for family

After the full extent of the situation set in, Jonas said his thoughts went to his children. ‘I also wanted to call my kids right away,’ he said. Jonas shares Willa, 6, and Delphine, 4, with ex-wife Sophie Turner. ‘I was like, ‘I just need to call them. I need to see them. I need to see their faces.’ Because you realize it could have been any of us. It could have been really bad,’ he said. ‘It was the best outcome of a bad situation.’
