Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett released her down-ballot endorsements in key state races, but notably left out her former opponent, Democratic Senate nominee Texas state Rep. James Talarico. This omission highlights Talarico’s continued struggle to gain support from black voters, a critical demographic in the race.

Endorsements Reflect Commitment to Local Issues

Crockett emphasized that her endorsements were based on candidates who have committed to fighting for their voters. In a statement, she said, “These endorsements reflect candidates who have committed to showing up and fighting for their voters. Candidates who will get to work immediately to lower their prices, stop the attacks on our civil rights, and deliver results.”

Crockett also pointed out that these candidates, though not making national headlines, are the ones who make decisions about healthcare, housing, and the economy, and that these races will have a real impact on local communities.

Talarico Struggles to Win Black Voter Support

Talarico’s campaign has faced low enthusiasm among black voters despite their overwhelming support for his opponent in the primary. Polls have shown mixed favorability with black voters, with one placing him at 79 percent and another at 67 percent. This is significantly lower than the support seen from prior Democratic Senate nominees like Colin Allred and Beto O’Rourke, who each received over 80 percent of the black vote in their general elections.

A black community organizer named Durrell Douglas described the lack of support for Talarico as having “no pulse” and “no energy,” indicating a deep disconnection with the community.

Political Implications of Voter Support

The exclusion of Talarico from Crockett’s endorsements underscores the importance of black voter support in Texas Senate races. With the Democratic Party relying heavily on this demographic to secure victory, Talarico’s inability to win their backing could significantly impact his chances of winning the general election.

Talarico’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller, leaving the situation in limbo as the race for the Senate seat continues to unfold.
