British police have arrested a UK-Iranian dual national in connection with a suspected terror plot targeting RAF Fairford, a U.S. military base in England. The incident, which occurred last weekend, involved five suspects whose suspicious vans were reported heading toward the base, suspected of carrying chemicals and explosives. Aerial footage captured by a news helicopter showed an explosive ordnance disposal robot operating near the suspected vehicles.

Arrests and Surveillance

The five suspects were detained by British police and later released on bail. Counter-terror police confirmed the arrest of a 27-year-old UK-Iranian dual national in Westminster, London, on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. A second man, a 26-year-old UK national, was also questioned under caution, and two properties in the area were searched.

Foreign-State Involvement?

Prime Minister Andy Burnham suggested that foreign-state involvement may be at play, stating that there are “strong indications” that Iran played a part in the incident. He emphasized that British authorities are working closely with U.S. officials. President Trump previously mentioned that the suspects had been under surveillance for a long time.

Investigation Continues

Officials are currently weighing the possibility of foreign-state involvement, with Burnham asserting that “we believe Iran to have played a part.” The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine the full extent of the plot and any international connections. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between the UK and Iran, particularly regarding military operations and security threats.
