Yankees captain Aaron Judge left off roster for AL Wild Card Series vs Red Sox due to calf injury.

Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees’ star center fielder, was left off the team’s roster for the AL Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox, due to a calf injury. The 34-year-old, who has been sidelined for much of the season, was not included despite efforts to return in time for the series opener.
Stanton and Grisham Included
Giancarlo Stanton, who has been out since April 24 due to a strained calf, and Trent Grisham, sidelined since Sept. 4, were included in the roster. Both players are expected to play a key role in the upcoming series.
Judge’s Efforts to Return
Despite taking live batting practice on Monday, Judge was not cleared to play. He had a platelet-poor plasma injection on Sept. 21 and had previously been sidelined by a fractured rib from May 31 to Sept. 8. This season, Judge was limited to 66 games, hitting .241 with 18 home runs and 41 RBIs.
Other Injuries and Roster Decisions
Other injuries affected the Yankees’ Wild Card Series roster. Left-hander Garrett Crochet, who won last season’s opener against the Yankees, was not included due to shoulder inflammation. Second baseman Luis Arraez and left-hander Brooks Raley were also left off due to ankle and other injuries, respectively.
Philadelphia and Atlanta Roster Decisions
Philadelphia opted for 14 position players, excluding those acquired at the trade deadline. Atlanta included Rowdy Tellez and Luke Williams, while Chicago selected Tommy Pham, an outfielder acquired from Philadelphia on Aug. 31, for its series against Houston.
Other Team Updates
The Astros included Japanese right-hander Tatsuya Imai, despite a struggling season, and Reynal Delgado, who played only three games for the team after July 19. Other injured players include Ethan Pecko and Steven Okert, who were left off the Astros’ pitching roster.
