Former Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson is gradually removing most of his tattoos, but one stands out: the Hillary Clinton tattoo on his leg. Despite his decision to remove many of his body art pieces, Davidson has expressed affection for his Hillary Clinton tattoo, calling it a permanent part of his identity.
A Symbol of Growth
Davidson revealed in 2017 that he got a poorly drawn likeness of Hillary Clinton on his right calf, jokingly referring to it as a Christmas gift. At the time, he described the tattoo as a tribute to his hero, stating, “Thanks for being such a badass and one of the strongest people in the universe.” While the reasoning behind the tattoo as a “Christmas gift” remains unclear, Davidson confirmed its permanence and authenticity.
From Self-Harm to Healing
Davidson explained that many of his tattoos were a result of his past struggles with self-harm. “I used to cut, so some of [the tattoos] covered up the cuts,” he said. However, as he has made progress in his mental health and kicked his drug use, he has decided to remove many of the tattoos, including those that were once a cover for his pain.
A New Chapter
Davidson described the decision to remove his tattoos as both a personal and professional choice. “One, they were fuckin’ horrible,” he joked. “Two, it was a business decision. I hated coming into the makeup trailer three hours early to spray-paint over horrible fuckin’ tattoos. And third, I was like, ‘I’m not this dude.’” Despite the removal, he remains steadfast in keeping his Hillary Clinton tattoo, calling it a symbol of his growth and a tribute to a personal hero.
Staying True to His Values
Davidson emphasized that his Hillary Clinton tattoo will stay with him, saying, “She stays. That’s my dog. I love Hillary, man. She’s awesome and a good friend.” This sentiment reflects not only his personal connection to the former First Lady but also a broader appreciation for her resilience and strength.
