Longtime Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins continues to hold the lead in the critical Senate race, according to a recent poll conducted by co/efficient. The survey, released Wednesday, shows Collins with a narrow advantage over far-left Democrat Troy Jackson, with 48 percent of voters supporting her compared to 46 percent for Jackson. Only 6 percent of Maine voters remain undecided.

Collins’ Strong Position in Poll

Collins is running for a sixth term representing the state, having first been elected in 1996. Jackson, the former state senate president, was selected by party insiders after the withdrawal of Graham Platner, who had won the Democrat primary. The poll highlights that Collins is more well-known to voters, with 44 percent viewing her favorably, compared to 47 percent who view her unfavorably. In contrast, only 36 percent of voters view Jackson favorably, with 47 percent holding an unfavorable opinion.

According to the poll summary, Collins is known to nearly everyone, with about one in six voters still forming an opinion on Jackson. The poll also included a survey of the state’s gubernatorial race, where Democrat Hannah Pingree leads Republican Bobby Charles with 47 percent to 38 percent. An independent candidate, Richard Bennett, received 6 percent of the vote.

Similar Trends to Previous Polls

The results mirror a recent New York Times/Siena poll, which also found Collins leading Jackson by 49 percent to 46 percent. These findings suggest a consistent trend in voter sentiment, with Collins maintaining a strong position in the race. The close margin indicates that the race remains highly competitive, with both candidates vying for the support of Maine voters.

The Senate race is a key battleground in the upcoming midterm elections, with the outcome potentially influencing the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. As the election approaches, both candidates are likely to focus on key issues such as healthcare, economic policy, and social issues to sway undecided voters.
