NASA’s Crew-13 has successfully docked at the International Space Station (ISS) following their nearly 8-hour journey, marking the fastest launch-to-docking of a U.S. spacecraft to the orbiting laboratory. The crew, consisting of NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Joshua Kutryk, and Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov, arrived at the ISS at 7:05 p.m. EDT on Thursday.

According to NASA, the mission took 7 hours and 55 minutes, setting a new record for the fastest launch-to-docking of a U.S. spacecraft in the history of the International Space Station. Following standard procedures, the crew entered the ISS after the hatch of SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft opened at 9:19 p.m. This arrival brings the total number of people living onboard the ISS to 11.

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon crew spacecraft launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Thursday, with the rocket’s first stage successfully separating and landing back on Earth. Crew-13 is set to take over mission responsibilities from the departing Crew-12 crew members on Sunday.

“Welcome aboard!” NASA posted to social media on Thursday. “After nearly eight hours in flight, Crew-13 arrived at the [ISS], where they will spend the next several months conducting experiments on science and tech to benefit life on Earth and in space.”
