LIV Golf Faces Collapse After $300M Funding Withdrawn
LIV Golf’s relaunch plans collapse as BC Partners pulls out, citing lack of player commitments.

LIV Golf is on the brink of collapse after its primary financier, BC Partners Credit, withdrew its $300 million investment, according to a report by the Financial Times. The decision came as the league approached a key deadline with insufficient player commitments for its proposed 2027 relaunch, known as LIV Golf 2.0.
Relaunch Plan Falters
The proposed relaunch aimed to maintain the team format, offer players ownership stakes, and host at least 10 tournaments, with half outside the United States. However, the lack of player sign-ups has led to the withdrawal of key financial backing, raising concerns about the league’s future. BC Partners Credit had initially committed to the investment in October but conditioned it on securing enough players for the new league.
Axios reported that at least 30 golfers had expressed interest in joining the relaunch, but negotiations over financial terms were still ongoing as bankruptcy proceedings neared their deadlines. The league had already filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced it would stop funding the league after the 2026 season.
Players Weigh Career Implications
Players are also considering the long-term impact of joining LIV Golf 2.0. The DP World Tour informed golfers that membership would be revoked, potentially barring them from the Ryder Cup for European players. Several high-profile players have already left the league, including Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, while Brooks Koepka returned to the PGA Tour in January under a re-entry program.
Bryson DeChambeau, one of the league’s most prominent players, expressed support for the relaunch’s business model, but his future remains uncertain. The league’s financial instability has sparked public skepticism, with jokes and questions about whether players could return to the PGA Tour circulating on social media platforms like X.
Uncertain Future Ahead
With its funding and player base in jeopardy, LIV Golf faces an uncertain path forward. The league’s fate will likely depend on its ability to secure new investors and attract enough players to sustain its operations beyond 2026. As the financial and legal challenges mount, the golf world watches closely to see if the league can recover or if it will eventually fold.
