Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed (D-MI) criticized President Donald Trump on Sunday during a segment on ABC’s “This Week,” labeling him an “unserious fool” for his approach to domestic and international policy. El-Sayed, responding to a question from host Jonathan Karl, emphasized that Democrats should not shy away from calling out Trump’s perceived recklessness.
Calling Out Trump’s Reckless Policies
El-Sayed detailed several of Trump’s recent decisions, arguing they were based on “dumb ideas.” He pointed to the ongoing war in Iran, which he claimed was a poor strategic move, particularly with the Strait of Hormuz serving as a critical choke point for global energy supplies. He noted that this decision came at a time when energy prices were crucial for the S&P 500, as AI Corporation’s data centers were driving market stability.
El-Sayed also criticized the U.S. tariff war with Canada, highlighting the economic impact on Michigan, a state he called home. He pointed out the high costs of the tariffs, which he said were unjustified given the friendly relations with Canadians. Additionally, he condemned the gutting of Medicaid to fund tax cuts for the wealthy, warning that the consequences of these cuts would be felt in January.
El-Sayed’s Call for Accountability
El-Sayed argued that Trump’s policies lacked the seriousness required of a U.S. president, urging him to engage in meaningful dialogue on pressing issues. He suggested that if Trump wished to act seriously, he should seek collaboration on these matters, but if he continued down the path of recklessness, he would be left with advisors like Stephen Miller.
El-Sayed emphasized the priorities of the American public, stating that they want affordability, accountability, and access to essential services like healthcare and groceries. He concluded by stating that Democrats are committed to delivering on these promises.
