Organizers estimated that around 20,000 people attended the ‘red line’ demonstration, which was held to pressure the Dutch government to take a firm stance against Israel. Steven Eisinger, a 33-year-old robotics engineer from the United States, told AFP that he supported Palestine and was against genocide, despite being Jewish and having family in Israel.
Humanitarian Crisis Persists in Gaza
A fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel has been in place since October 2023, following a two-year war sparked by Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Dutch Government Takes Stance on Israeli Settlements

Recently, the Dutch government banned products from Israeli settlements in the occupied territories, which are considered illegal under international law. Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar responded by revoking the accreditation of Dutch diplomats.
Impact on International Events
The Netherlands has also withdrawn from the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, citing the ‘sensitive’ issue of Israel’s participation. This decision reflects the growing political tensions and the impact of the ongoing conflict on international relations and cultural events.
