Women are increasingly turning to rage retreats as a way to process and release intense emotions, with some paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars for the experience. These retreats, which have gained significant traction, offer a structured environment for participants to scream, growl, and express their anger in a supportive setting.
Rage Retreats Gain Popularity
According to Bloomberg, events like RAGEher, led by Kristina McMenamin, charge up to $95 for a 2.5-hour session, with many selling out and having waiting lists. More than 20% of attendees return for more, indicating a strong demand for these services. The retreats started in Chicago but have since expanded to other locations, showing their growing appeal.
High-End Retreats and Spiritual Components
Mia Magik, known for her Rage Ritual retreats, offers a six-day experience that costs up to $4,000 per person. These retreats include a group screaming ritual in the woods, emphasizing the communal aspect of anger expression. For a more spiritual approach, the Holy Rage Retreats provide a $600 half-day session that combines meditation with guided rituals, aiming to help participants express their rage through various ‘expressive behaviors.’
Smaller-Scale and Inclusive Options
Smaller versions of these retreats exist, such as ‘smash parties’ hosted in backyards for as little as $25. Rachel Mehl, who hosted one after her cancer diagnosis, described the experience as necessary for emotional release. She emphasized that the activity was not about violence but about processing emotions that had no outlet.
Inclusive Retreats for All
While most events cater to women, Love Your Rage in London is more inclusive, welcoming ‘womxn, femmes, and gender non-conforming individuals.’ The retreat offers a supportive environment where participants can rediscover their ‘wild within,’ highlighting the broader appeal of these anger-expression events.
