Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after being diagnosed with a serious blood clot condition. The 26-year-old star, who led the Eagles to Super Bowl LIX victory, is dealing with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and bilateral pulmonary emboli, which are blood clots in both lungs.

Hurts was initially diagnosed with a superficial vein thrombosis in his left calf during the Eagles’ trip to London in early 2026. Despite the diagnosis, he played through the injury in a Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, further testing revealed a more severe condition, prompting the team to take immediate action.

The Eagles and Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, released a joint statement confirming the diagnosis and treatment plan. Hurts is currently receiving anticoagulation therapy, also known as blood thinners, which means he cannot participate in any contact activities, including football. The statement emphasized that Hurts is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations.

“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery,” the statement read. “We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.”

The Eagles’ medical team is working closely with Hurts to ensure a safe and effective treatment plan. While the quarterback’s absence will be a significant blow to the team, the organization remains optimistic about his recovery and future return.

Hurts, who played college football at Alabama from 2016–2018, was a key player in the 2017 national championship team. After transferring to Oklahoma for 2019, he became a Heisman Trophy runner-up and led the Sooners to the College Football Playoff. He was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and has since become a fan favorite with his leadership and performance on the field.

As the Eagles prepare for the remainder of the 2026 season, fans will be hoping for updates on Hurts’ condition and his potential return. While the quarterback’s health remains a priority, the team will look to other players to step up and fill the void during his absence.
