The NFL is reviewing an incident during Sunday’s game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Miami Dolphins, where a referee lost his temper after being knocked to the ground by a player. The incident occurred in the first quarter of the Vikings’ 15-10 victory over the Dolphins.

Referee Knocked Down During Play

The incident happened during a third-down play when Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II shoved Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson. Wilson stumbled sideways as a result, knocking the referee to the ground. Although the referee was not injured, he was visibly upset when he rose to his feet.

Wilson later stated that he didn’t think the situation was a big deal. “That was funny, honestly,” he said. “I ended up apologizing to him and explained the situation. He was cool about it. He understood what was going on. He just said he didn’t want us fighting, me and [Gordon]. He said he was just trying to break us up.”

NFL Reviews the Incident

The NFL confirmed it is reviewing the incident, although it is unclear if any disciplinary action will follow. According to NFL rules, a player must be ejected for “unnecessary physical conduct with a game official.” Despite the referee’s anger, Wilson was not ejected during the game, which suggests that the review may not lead to any significant consequences.

While the incident was relatively minor, it highlights the potential for tension between players and officials during high-intensity games. The NFL’s decision to review the incident underscores its commitment to maintaining order and ensuring fair play on the field.
