A video has emerged showing Arizona State University cheerleader Eryn Bonner allegedly being subjected to rough treatment by police officers during an arrest attempt. The incident occurred on July 19, and the footage, obtained by the Tempe Police Department, depicts Bonner interfering with the arrest of her male friend.
According to the video, Bonner screamed at the officers, yelling, “Let him go, let him go.” One officer responded by violently shoving her to the ground. Bonner quickly got back up and approached the officer, leading to a brief struggle before the officer took her to the ground again. She started to resist arrest, and the officer appeared to throw a punch.
Another officer arrived to assist in detaining Bonner, who was eventually pinned against a police bicycle. The incident has sparked controversy, with Bonner’s attorney, Benjamin Taylor, accusing the officers of excessive force and groping. Taylor claimed that Maricopa County prosecutors declined to pursue felony charges, calling it a political prosecution to cover up the alleged misconduct.
Bonner’s family released a statement expressing deep heartbreak over the incident, describing the pain and sadness in her eyes. They emphasized the importance of holding public servants to the highest standards to preserve public trust and institutional integrity.
The Tempe Police Department confirmed an internal investigation is underway.
