Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has taken aim at Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren over her recent letter-writing campaign and her inflation tracker, while also wishing her a ‘Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day’ in a letter posted on X.

Warren Faces Criticism Over Affordability Letters

Bessent responded to Warren’s latest letter in a post on X, where he criticized the Massachusetts Democrat for sending over 100 letters to his department in the past 21 months, according to Fox Business correspondent Edward Lawrence.

Warren’s Oct. 7 letter pressed Bessent on lowering borrowing costs for everyday households, arguing that the surge in Treasury yields is self-inflicted and follows the Fed’s decision to raise the federal funds rate by a quarter of a percentage point, driven by inflation concerns.

Bessent rejected Warren’s account, calling her concerns insincere. He wrote, ‘As the federal funds rate climbed from near zero to its highest level in 22 years, with inflation hitting a 40-year high, you were a cheerleader for the Biden Administration’s reckless spending.’

The letter concluded with Bessent offering a ‘Foreign Exchange for Dummies’ tutorial and a ‘Fixed Income for Dummies’ course, contingent on Warren passing a Yale metric.

Bessent Mocks Warren’s Inflation Tracker

Bessent has separately mocked Warren’s Trumpflation Tracker on X, calling it another ‘Econ 101 lesson for Professor Warren.’

Warren built the tracker to tally what families lose under the current economy, according to a Senate Banking Committee minority release. It puts cumulative inflation at 5.2% since December 2024 and the added household cost at roughly $3,388. ‘Instead he has spent his Presidency creating an affordability crisis, and now he’s calling his self-made crisis a hoax,’ Warren said in the release.

Warren has faced years of scrutiny over her heritage claims. She released a DNA test in 2018 showing distant Native American roots six to 10 generations back, according to the Associated Press. She apologized to the Cherokee Nation the next year for causing confusion over tribal sovereignty.

Bessent also added a handwritten note at the end of his letter, wishing Warren a ‘Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day in advance to you and your family.’
