On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) made a clear distinction between the impeachment of Secretaries Pete Hegseth and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and that of President Donald Trump. Clyburn stated that Hegseth and RFK Jr. should be impeached, calling their actions a major issue within the administration.

Accountability Over Impeachment

Clyburn emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in Washington, stating that the focus should be on correcting the chaos, costs, and corruption that have become rampant. He argued that while the impeachment of the president should not be pursued due to the lack of a two-thirds majority in the Senate, the impeachment of Hegseth and RFK Jr. is a priority.

“We have got to make our leadership accountable to the American people,” Clyburn said. “And I think that’s why we ought not be pursuing any impeachment of the president, but we ought to be pursuing some corrections to the chaos, the costs, and the corruption that is running rampant in Washington today. And we can do that by moving to make these people account for their actions.”

Focus on Leadership Accountability

Clyburn specifically highlighted the actions of Hegseth, accusing him of eradicating women from leadership positions in the military and removing African Americans from key roles. He also criticized RFK Jr. for his behavior and influence within the administration.

When asked if Hegseth and RFK Jr. should be impeached, Clyburn responded, “Those two? Yes. Absolutely. We ought not be pursuing any impeachment of the president, because I don’t think we’re going to get to the two-thirds majority in the Senate, so let’s not waste time with that. But I do believe that the vast majority of the United States Senate is upset with Hegseth and what he’s doing to eradicate women from leadership positions in our military, getting rid of African Americans.”

Clyburn’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among some Democratic lawmakers that the focus should be on holding the current administration accountable for its actions, rather than pursuing a presidential impeachment that may not be feasible. His remarks underscore the political tensions and divisions within the Democratic Party as they navigate the challenges of the current administration.
