Florida Democrat Jolly ‘Begging’ for Funds Amid Luxury Hotel Spending
Florida Democrat David Jolly faces scrutiny over luxury hotel stays and campaign finance disclosures.

Florida Democrat gubernatorial candidate David Jolly has drawn attention for his public plea for national Democratic Party funds amid campaign finance disclosures revealing his frequent use of luxury Ritz Carlton hotels. According to campaign finance records, Jolly has stayed at Ritz Carlton locations in Miami, Washington, D.C., Naples, Fort Lauderdale, Boston, and New York City. These stays, which range from $500 to over $1,200 per night during peak times, were partially funded by Florida taxpayers through the state’s matching funds system.
Campaign Finance and Fundraising Disparity
X user Mark Glaeser shared the disclosures at the end of September, highlighting the high cost of Jolly’s travel. Jolly’s campaign reported $3.3 million in funds as of September, a stark contrast to Republican Byron Donalds’ $135 million raised through the same period. Despite this gap, Jolly has positioned himself as a moderate, advocating for policies that include ending Florida’s school choice programs, supporting transgender athletes in girls’ sports, and opposing the state’s gun culture.
Political Context and Polling
Jolly, a former Republican congressman and lobbyist, has also expressed support for Anthony Fauci during the pandemic, even fleeing Florida for Pennsylvania. His campaign has emphasized a need for national Democratic Party support, with Jolly stating, “I need the national Democratic Party to come into Florida and start spending money.”
A recent poll by Democrat pollster Change Research gave Jolly a two-point lead among likely voters, with 48% to Donalds’ 46%. However, as the race tightens, questions about Jolly’s campaign spending and taxpayer-funded travel continue to surface, adding complexity to his bid for the governorship.
