Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton asserted that California is salvageable from years of Democratic mismanagement, during an appearance on The Alex Marlow Show. Hilton emphasized the need for a shift in political leadership to restore the state’s potential.
California’s Potential Under Threat
Hilton described California as a state with vast natural resources, a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and a history of innovation, but he argued that these strengths have been undermined by bureaucratic overreach. He criticized the state’s current government for imposing excessive regulations and high taxes, which he claims stifle business and personal freedom.
“We got the best weather, amazing natural beauty, incredible talent, energy, entrepreneurs — a kind of tradition of disruptive business-building,” Hilton said. “Except we’ve ended up with this bloated nanny state bureaucratic government bossing us around from morning till night.”
Political Change as the Key to Reform
Hilton argued that the only achievable change in the current political climate is through the governor’s race, which he sees as a crucial opportunity to break the Democratic supermajority in the state legislature. He acknowledged the difficulty of winning without broad support, but emphasized the importance of appealing to both Republicans and independents.
“We’ve got to get Democrats and independents to vote for us,” he said. “There’s a simple message to that. The practical things I’m offering, everyone supports in California pretty much.”
Call to Action for Voters
Hilton also addressed the reluctance of some voters to support Republicans, particularly those who associate the party with former President Donald Trump. He urged voters to consider the need for change after 16 years of one-party rule.
“Isn’t it time to try something different? Just try it,” he said. “We can’t keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.”
As the race for governor heats up, Hilton’s campaign continues to focus on mobilizing a broad coalition of voters, emphasizing the importance of political change in restoring California’s economic and social vitality.
