Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested an illegal immigrant who was previously protected by Oregon’s sanctuary policies for five years. Victor Soseia Hachipan, a citizen of Micronesia, was apprehended in Keizer, Oregon, on October 7, following a targeted operation.
Hachipan was initially detained in 2021 by Marion County, Oregon, after a conviction, but sanctuary politicians refused to honor the detainer and released him into the community, according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) news release. Federal officials then embarked on a three-year effort to locate and arrest the criminal illegal immigrant.
First, federal officials filed an administrative subpoena to obtain Hachipan’s address from Marion County. When the county refused, HSI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office took the matter to federal court and successfully obtained a court order to reveal his residence.
“The Trump Administration will never let sanctuary politicians stand in the way of protecting American citizens,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “After sanctuary politicians in the state of Oregon refused to honor an ICE detainer, as well as a subpoena, we finally arrested this illegal alien from Micronesia, a convicted sex offender, after obtaining a court order from a Federal Judge to enforce the subpoena.”
Hachipan has been convicted of two counts of second-degree sex abuse involving a victim under the age of 14, two counts of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, two counts of second-degree burglary, and failure to report as a sex offender. The Salem Reporter noted that burglary charges from 2022 involved incidents in which churches in Salem, Oregon, were burglarized before fires were set inside.
ILLEGAL ALIEN SEX OFFENDER APPREHENDED
The arrest occurred amid rising tensions in Oregon, where rioters have begun attacking ICE facilities following an uptick in arrests of illegal immigrants. An ICE representative stated that anti-ICE protesters blocked roads and used baseball bats and rocks to damage government vehicles, threatening harm to officers and the public.
“Violence against ICE officers, or any law enforcement personnel, will not be tolerated,” the representative said. “Our officers carry out their congressionally mandated duties in service to public safety and the rule of law. Any bystander or individual who assaults, obstructs, or violently attacks officers will be subject to arrest and prosecution permitted by law.”
