Hollywood celebrities and prominent figures are increasingly funneling money into the campaigns of radical Democratic socialist candidates in Michigan, according to recent federal campaign finance records. The donations include contributions from high-profile names such as Barbra Streisand, Danny DeVito, rapper Macklemore, and Susan Sarandon, among others.
Barbra Streisand has donated $2,000 each to Michigan Democratic U.S. House candidates Christina Hines and William Lawrence, according to the Detroit News. Danny DeVito contributed $3,500 to socialist Muslim Democrat Senate candidate Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed. El-Sayed also received support from rapper Macklemore, who donated $7,000 to his campaign. Other notable donors include actor Matthew Lillard, author Judy Blume, and actress Susan Sarandon, who gave $1,050 to El-Sayed’s campaign.
Edsel Ford II, the great-grandson of Henry Ford and former Ford Motor Co. board member, donated $10,000 to two Democratic House candidates. Carter Oosterhouse, host of HGTV’s Trading Spaces, also contributed to Democrat House candidate Callie Barr.
Meanwhile, several notable figures have also supported Republican candidates in Michigan. Former White House Press Secretary Anthony Scaramucci donated $3,000 to Republican Bill Huizenga. Roger Penske, a car racing powerhouse, gave $7,000 to Republican Michael Bouchard. Daniel DeVos, chairman of the Orlando Magic, contributed $21,400 to four GOP candidates. Linda McMahon, WWE wrestling co-founder and current U.S. Secretary of Education, donated $28,000 to four Michigan Republican House candidates. Cincinnati Reds owner Bob Castellini gave $10,000 to GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers, and Ross Perot contributed $3,500 to Bouchard’s campaign.
The financial support from Hollywood and other high-profile individuals highlights the growing influence of political donations in Michigan’s upcoming elections. As the campaign season progresses, the role of celebrity endorsements and financial backing will likely remain a focal point for voters and political observers alike.
