Two female high school athletes in Maine are taking a stand against state policies that require them to compete against biological males in girls’ sports. Morgan Clark and Reagan Wilson, both high school juniors, have filed a formal Title IX complaint with federal officials through the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a conservative Christian legal group. The complaint alleges that Maine’s policies deny girls equal athletic opportunities.

Title IX Violations Alleged

ADF senior counsel Hal Frampton told The Daily Wire that Title IX, which has been instrumental in creating equal athletic opportunities for women and girls, is being undermined by states like Maine allowing males into women’s sports. Frampton claims that this practice discriminates against women and violates the intent of Title IX.

Clark shared her experience with the press, stating that her varsity soccer team has faced a male athlete in competition, which has led to a decline in their rankings. Last year, the team was ranked 14th in the region, but this year they are second. Clark noted that this shift has made her realize the impact of male athletes in girls’ sports, something she previously only saw online.

Impact on Female Athletes

Wilson, who has competed in multiple sports including swimming, cross country, track, soccer, and softball, described how Maine’s policies have forced her to compete against male athletes throughout her high school career. She emphasized that male athletes, due to the natural strength and speed from testosterone, have dominated competitions, displacing several girls across different sports.

Wilson expressed her frustration over the denial of equal athletic opportunities for many girls and women. She stated that the crushing disappointment of being beaten by male athletes who should not have been allowed to compete is a common experience, and she encourages others to stand up for their rights.

Call for Federal Intervention

Frampton warned that unless officials intervene, female athletes will continue to face male competitors in various states. He called for more complaints like this to make the issue stop. The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights will evaluate ADF’s complaint and decide whether to launch an investigation. Frampton hopes for a swift response to the growing concern over Title IX violations in women’s sports.
