Talarico Advises Voters to Trust Records, Not Politicians’ Words
Texas Senator-elect James Talarico urges voters to focus on records, not promises, following his Senate victory.

James Talarico, the Democrat who defeated Republican Ken Paxton in Texas’ Senate race, has advised voters to trust their records over the words of politicians, including his own. Fresh off a decisive 55% to 43% victory, Talarico emphasized that voters should not place faith in campaign promises or statements, but rather in the actions and history of elected officials.
Talarico’s Campaign Contradictions
During an interview with Fox News, Talarico told Dana Perino that he did not believe voters should trust anything a politician says. ‘You shouldn’t trust anything,’ he said, adding that his record was the only thing voters should rely on. ‘Actions speak louder than words,’ he explained, citing his four-term service in the Texas legislature.
However, Talarico’s campaign trail revealed a series of shifting positions. While he positioned himself as a ‘border security’ Democrat, he previously criticized Republicans for their actions on border control under former President Joe Biden. He once claimed that enforcing immigration laws during the pandemic was an example of the ‘oppression of undocumented Americans.’
Policy Shifts During Campaign
Talarico also changed his stance on key issues during the campaign. He supported the oil and gas industry and voter ID, contradicting earlier comments where he opposed voter ID requirements and predicted the decline of the oil and gas sector. His campaign also included calls for working with President Donald Trump on border security, amnesty for undocumented immigrants, and legalizing marijuana.
Despite these contradictions, Talarico’s victory in the Senate race marked a significant shift for Democrats, helping them secure control of the Senate. His win highlights the complexities of political messaging and the challenges of aligning campaign promises with past positions.
