Polling day has officially begun in the U.S. midterm elections as millions of voters prepare to decide the future of Congress for the final two years of President Donald Trump’s presidency. The outcome will determine whether Republicans maintain control of both chambers of Congress or lose their majority to Democrats.

Key Races and Voting Locations

The first polling stations opened in Vermont at 05:00 ET, with the east coast following an hour later. Areas such as New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maine, and Kentucky were all ready to welcome voters. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are at stake, as are 35 of the 100 Senate seats. Additionally, several state-level races, including gubernatorial contests, are also in play.

Trump’s Final Message

In the final hours before voting commenced, President Trump delivered his closing message at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. He emphasized the stakes of the election, highlighting his administration’s accomplishments in its first 20 months. Trump criticized the Democratic Party for nominating what he described as the most extreme and dangerous slate of candidates in American history.

“The Democrat Party has nominated the most extreme and dangerous slate of candidates in American history. These are the most dangerous candidates ever put up,” he said. He also warned of radical threats, stating, “There’s never been anything like what we’re seeing: jihadists and Muslim Brotherhood members and people that nobody can even believe what we’re looking at, and all committed to the same radical agenda.”

Eligible Voters and Electoral Impact

There are an estimated 250 million eligible U.S. voters out of a population of around 350 million people. The new Congress will be the 120th in U.S. history and will take office in January 2027. The next U.S. presidential election is scheduled for November 2028.

The results of these elections will have significant implications for the political landscape, shaping policies and priorities for years to come. As voters cast their ballots, the nation watches closely to see which party will hold the keys to power in Washington, D.C.
