Tovah Feldshuh, star of the Netflix comedy series Nobody Wants This, has publicly condemned Adam Brody’s recent comments about Palestine, calling them dangerously reminiscent of Nazi propaganda. Feldshuh, who plays the matriarch of Brody’s character, accused him of using terms like ‘genocide’ and ‘free Palestine’ in a way that ‘takes words right out of Hitler’s playbook.’
Brody’s Comments Spark Outcry
Brody, who portrays Rabbi Noah Roklov on the show, made the remarks during a GQ interview in which he described his views on the Israel-Palestine conflict. He stated, ‘Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine. It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago.’
Feldshuh’s Response
Feldshuh, who has long been a vocal advocate for Jewish causes, responded to Brody’s comments with sharp criticism. She told the New York Post that accusing the Jewish people of genocide is not only misleading but also deeply offensive. ‘It’s right out of Hitler’s playbook. You take the victim, and you make the victim the perpetrator,’ she said.
Feldshuh also emphasized the importance of the state of Israel in the broader context of global democracy. ‘I believe that the perseverance of the existence of the state of Israel is crucial to the well-being of the democratic world and of the free world,’ she stated. ‘Of course, Israel needs the United States, but the United States needs Israel, believe me.’
Show Creator Also Speaks Out
Series creator Erin Foster also addressed Brody’s comments, acknowledging the complexity of the issue. ‘I disagree with him, and that’s OK,’ Foster said. ‘Our work environment, our set, is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing.’
Foster added that while she respects Brody as a cast member, she also maintains her own stance on the matter. ‘While I love Adam, I also disagree with him, and that’s OK,’ she noted.
Broader Implications
The controversy has sparked wider discussions about free speech, political correctness, and the role of celebrities in public discourse. Feldshuh’s comments highlight the sensitivity of the Israel-Palestine issue and the potential for language to be weaponized in ways that marginalize communities.
