A Florida mother was arrested after leaving her four children home alone during a work trip. Irene Miller, 50, was taken into custody as she stepped off a flight from Las Vegas, according to authorities. Miller, a professional photographer, was arrested on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm after leaving her children — aged 9, 11, 12, and 14 — unattended in Kissimmee, Florida, for five days.
Miller was booked into the Orange County Jail after being escorted through the airport terminal by police. Bodycam footage shows her being handcuffed as she exited the plane. The incident came to light when one of the children called 911 after a dumbbell fell on the 9-year-old’s head. Deputies arrived to find the four children home alone, and the boy was taken by Fire Rescue to Celebration Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Miller told police she would return on October 23 and claimed a babysitter from Tampa was scheduled to help the children in the mornings before school and check on them after. However, the babysitter was not required to stay overnight. Police discovered that Miller had left for Las Vegas on October 18. Authorities contacted the children’s father, who agreed to take the kids while deputies arranged to meet Miller at the airport.
“The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect,” said Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon. “These cases will be investigated, and charges will be brought against the parents who are not properly supervising or caring for their children.”
