Trump Calls Democrats ‘Dumocrats’ Amid Socialist Shift

President Donald Trump has criticized the Democratic Party for embracing socialist and communist ideologies, suggesting the party should change its name to better reflect its current direction. During a press briefing on Saturday, Trump stated that the Democrats have become the ‘Socialists of America’ and argued that the term ‘Democrat’ is no longer accurate.
Trump’s Criticism of Democratic Party
Trump claimed that the Democratic Party has already reinvented itself by embracing socialists and communists, pushing the party further to the left. He described the current Democratic Party as ‘dumocrats’ and said the name ‘Democrat’ is misleading. ‘Democrat is a — they’re really socialists, they’ve become socialists,’ Trump reiterated, adding that the party is being dragged much further left than socialists.
Democratic Socialists’ Platform
The comments come as a number of self-described Democratic socialists, including some aligned with the radical Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), are poised to win seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Although most ran on watered-down platforms calling for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), police, and prisons, the official DSA platform calls for the complete abolition of the United States Senate and the reinterpretation of both the presidency and the Supreme Court.
DSA’s Radical Proposals
The DSA also advocates for the dissolution of all foreign military installations and deferring to the International Criminal Court for accusations of war crimes. The entire platform, as previously reported, reads like a blend of Marxist ideals and an antisemitic vision, including demands for open borders, mass amnesty, and the confiscation of large corporations.
Warnings from Former Democrats
Some former Democrats, including former Sen. Joe Manchin, Sen. John Fetterman, Democratic strategist James Carville, and comedian Bill Maher, have sounded the alarm over the party’s shift toward socialism. However, many within the party appear to be ignoring the ‘socialist’ aspect in a bid to attract more voters to the Democratic fold.
