President Donald Trump has suggested potential changes to his administration following the Republican Party’s significant losses in Tuesday’s midterm elections. In an interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes, Trump confirmed he was considering replacing some senior officials.
When asked if he intended to fire anyone after the election results, Trump replied: “I do.” He added, “A little bit,” before stating, “I love my Cabinet. I think they’re good, but I’ll be doing maybe a few changes.”
More changes coming:
The remarks came shortly before Trump announced that White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles would be leaving her position, with Stephen Miller taking over. “Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff — She has done a great job!” he added.
President Trump says he replaced Susie Wiles with Stephen Miller as White House Chief of Staff because he “wanted to make a change.”
Speaking to reporters, Trump defended the decision while praising his outgoing chief of staff. “Susie has done a very good job. Great job,” he said. “We’ve got to make moves sometimes.”
The president also expressed confidence in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who vengeful Democrats are already planning to impeach. When asked whether he continued to support Hegseth, Trump responded: “I do.”
Trump subsequently played down the prospect of a sweeping overhaul amid a deluge of media reports about his plans for the remainder of his term.
