President Donald Trump signed an executive order (EO) on Monday, October 19, 2026, establishing new standards and improved funding for women’s health care and research, with First Lady Melania Trump by his side at the White House. The event took place in the Rose Garden, where Mrs. Trump highlighted the significance of the moment, calling it a ‘transformative moment for women in America.’
“Beginning today, we will change the reality of Women’s health. Previous generations fought for women’s rights,” she said. “Our generation will fight to discover the cures that will ensure a woman can live her life in health and to the fullest.”

She outlined her ‘First Lady’s Five Pillars of Women’s Health Innovation:’
- Directing research funding towards finding cures for diseases that uniquely affect women;
- Use super intelligence (SI) to enhance our understanding of female biology and speed up medical discoveries, all to the benefit of women;
- Accelerate the process of guiding promising therapies from laboratories to female patients while still keeping strict safety standards;
- Ensure that medical breakthroughs are accessible and affordable to women regardless of their financial circumstances;
- Replace generations of silence with open conversation, education and compassion.

“Our mission must serve women in every stage of life,” she stated, before handing the podium to the president.
President Trump said the EO establishes a new women’s health care division within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which he believed should have already been done.
“There’s so many things that would seem so basic. Think of it: A women’s health division, and it hasn’t been done. But it’s been done under Trump,” he said.
He added that when the first lady “conceived” of the idea, he remarked, “Are you sure they don’t have that? Who the hell wouldn’t have a women’s health division?”

The EO also establishes a new White House Task Force mobilizing the federal government to collaboratively work to improve women’s health, led by Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“These are mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, and under the Trump administration, we’re going to get them the care and support that they need and deserve,” said Trump.
“This historic initiative will promote new research and really go after the under studied diseases affecting women and promote innovative technologies to diagnose conditions sooner and improve treatment using the best available science,” he later added.

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who recently announced she was cancer-free after several months battling early-stage breast cancer while in office, was very excited about the new order, Trump noted. He also highlighted that the signing of the order comes during October — breast cancer awareness month.
“The White House asserted that many women’s health concerns ‘remain understudied or insufficiently understood,’ underscoring the gap in care that the order is needed to fill.” The EO, ‘Advancing Women’s Health to Improve Outcomes in All Phases of Life,’ reads. “Despite considerable advances in biomedical science, many diseases and conditions that disproportionately or uniquely affect women have not received the level of research, clinical attention, and treatment that other diseases and conditions have received.” “More research is needed in critical aspects of women’s health, including cardiovascular and heart disease, cancer, stroke, Alzheimer’s Disease, autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, osteoporosis, mental health, chronic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, polyendocrine metabolic ovary syndrome, infertility, maternal health, menopause, neurological disorders, aging, and more.”
